There are several variants of the game, including draw and five-card stud. The most popular stud variant is seven-card stud, in which each player receives two additional cards. Another version is three-card brag, which was a favorite among gentleman during the American Revolution.
Poker games can be played with any number of players, but the ideal number is 6-8. The game is most common in North America and Europe.
